Executive/legislative row will hinder democracy – APC chieftain

The friction between the executive and the legislature will not allow democracy to grow, rather it would slow down governance in Nigeria.

All Progressives Congress, APC, aspirant for Owo/Ose Federal Constituency, Mr. Olayato Aribo stated this in an interview with The Hope in Akure.

Aribo said the friction was bound to happen but that it should not go to the extreme of delaying passage of budget and other acts of governance.

His words: “Definitely friction is bound to happen between the two arms but this should not be allowed to slow down governance. There must be symbiotic relationship between the two arms and both should work for the overall interest of the country.”

Speaking on the Independent National Electoral Commission performance so far, he said that the commission has tried so far to conduct a free and fair elections in the country.

“Our ongoing democracy is just below 20years and looking at the performance of the commission critically, it has done much to provide a level playing field to all political parties and conduct a free, fair and credible election in the country.

“In the past elections, they were characterised with snatching of boxes, thuggery, manipulation of results, but today these have been reduced to barest minimum.

” There’s the need for improvement and INEC must work with other stakeholders to curtail vote buying. Again, stakeholders for election must work in unison to bring about free, fair and credible election in the country “.

He advised the commission to look into way of introducing electronic voting into the electoral processes in Nigeria, stressing that it would reduce vote buying in the country.

The APC chieftain urged the electorate to get their voter cards, saying that the process whereby INEC beg them to come for their PVCs is not good for democracy

” INEC must enlightening the electorate using churches, mosques and electoral stakeholders to gain asses to them to always ask for their voter cards for they are the avenue to contribute to the development of democracy “.

On 2019 presidential election, the politician said that the All Progressives Congress, APC, led by President Mohammad Buhari will win the election.

“Going by Muhammad Buhari’s antecedents and integrity, he will carry the day. Nigerians are tired of corruption and the only person that is ready to confront corruption in our country is the present president. I see him coming out victorious in 2019 presidential election.”
