Expect consistent rainfall, climatologist assures farmers

The Director of Agro Climatologist, of the Ondo State Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Mr. Adewale Olajide, has assured farmers that the recent spell of dry weather is gradually giving way to steady rainfall, signalling a return to favourable conditions for cultivation.
Speaking during an interview with The Hope,, Olajide said,“The prolonged dry spell was a sign that the rainy season had not yet fully stabilised. However, since Saturday, we’ve been experiencing consistent rainfall, which indicates a shift towards more reliable weather patterns.”
He confirmed that the region remains within the optimal planting period and that the rainfall is expected to become even more consistent in the coming weeks.
“With this steady rainfall, we anticipate that farming activities will return to normal. Farmers should now be more active in their fields. There is no cause for alarm,” he added.
Olajide advised farmers whose seedlings were lost during the dry period to replant, assuring them that there is still sufficient time to meet targets related to food security and sufficiency.
According to him, the current rains are reliable enough, so crops planted now will not fail. However, farmers should be mindful that a brief dry spell may still occur, which is a regular feature of the seasonal cycle.
Olajide also noted that farmers would be duly informed ahead of any anticipated dry spell.
He encouraged members of the public to dress appropriately during the wet season and to ensure children are kept warm.
Additionally, livestock farmers were urged to take necessary precautions to keep their animals’ shelters warm and dry.
