The Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has announced that the new minimum wage of ₦73,000 for civil servants will be implemented from this month.
The governor made the declaration on Friday during the 2024 Public Service Week celebration, marked by a fitness walk to promote the health and well-being of public workers.
Civil servants walked through parts of the state, converging at the Government House, where they were warmly received.
In his address, Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasised that the welfare of civil servants is a priority for his administration.
“Anything we have done for civil servants has never been politically driven. If workers are not happy, they won’t be encouraged. That is why we have always prioritised their welfare,” he said.
He further highlighted the importance of worker motivation, describing it as an essential mindset for productivity.
The governor assured civil servants that, if re-elected, he would surpass his current achievements, pledging to set new records for the workforce.
He expressed appreciation for their show of solidarity and reminded them of his shared identity as the state’s ‘number one civil servant.’
The Head of Service, Bayo Philips, praised Governor Aiyedatiwa for creating a supportive environment for civil servants.
He noted the administration’s commitment to prompt salary payments, regular promotions, and consistent pension disbursements.
Philips emphasised that the civil servants gathered at the event were not politicians but were there to express their appreciation for the governor’s dedication to their welfare.
Governor Aiyedatiwa reiterated his commitment to civil servants, stating that the new minimum wage is a settled matter and a testament to his administration’s focus on improving the quality of life for the state’s workforce.
Also, State Chairman of the Trade Union Congress, Comrade Clement Fatuase, expressed confidence in Governor Aiyedatiwa’s continued support for civil servants.
He assured the governor that, following the 16 November gubernatorial election, civil servants would proudly celebrate his victory on 17 November.
Fatuase emphasised the strong bond between the governor and the public workforce, highlighting civil servants’ appreciation and loyalty towards his administration.
