Experts advocate support for basketball league in Nigeria

Following what can be best described as a superb tournament so far, stakeholders have appealed for a regular basketball tournament in the country.

This appeal was made during the ongoing 15th Zenith women basketball tournament holding at the indoor sports hall of the Ondo State sports complex in Akure.

Head Coach of First Deep Waters basketball team, Sola Somala, noted that the 15th edition of the league has made open an opportunity for her to expose young players and further stressed that such would keep the girls busy, diverting their attention from unprofitable ventures.

Submitting his views, Coach Chinedu Ezenwuoye of City Queens basketball team of Enugu state challenged philanthropists to support associations in tackling welfare packages of the athletes and also draw the attention of corporate organizations in sponsoring basketball tournament in the country.

General Manager, Ondo State Sports Council, Chief Wande Faboluje while commending the team spirit behind the game, said it has fostered unity, positive rivalry among talents which he noted could assist national coaches in selecting players for national assignment.

As the host, the General manager said the tournament has boosted the economical potentials of the state and promised an enabling environment for a successful games.

Six teams slugging it out in Akure center  includes; MFM queens, IGP, First Deep waters, Coal city queens, Delta force and host Sunshine Angels.
