Experts urge farmers to upgrade technologically

The need for farmers to upgrade technologically to be able to access information and link market through different applications available on the internet has been stressed.

Speaking with The Hope in his office, Dr Emmanuel Moyinjesu said a lot of organizations all over the world including Nigeria Meteorological Agency NIMET give information about climate change everyday.

He added that they can link the application of these organizations with their GSM to access  information and know what to do at every point in time.

Moyinjesu who stressed that farmers must upgrade technologically to make farming worthwhile noted that they can link market through the applications since one of their major challenges is market.

While saying they can  develop good marketing structure on their own by building silos and warehouse to prevent wastage, Moyinjesu advised them to form themselves to formidable groups since it might be difficult for an individual to do.

“They don’t form themselves to groups that is why they can not do some things. If they form themselves to groups, they can develop good marketing structure, build warehouse and even silos and keep their produce and can sell at their price. They can form themselves to groups according to their commodities, cassava farmers, oil palm producers, rice farmers and so on.

“They should also form themselves into cooperatives. They can access loans through that, all they need to do is to ensure each farmer has collateral”, he said.

Moyinjesu who charged farmers to ensure good mentoring in agriculture advised them to ensure there is mentor and mentee relationship while encouraging their children to go into it.
