Explore opportunities in art -Olurimisi charges students

Ondo State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Alhaji Ismail Olurimisi has charged students to explore vast opportunities that abound in creative art. He said this during the conference of visual art tutors exhibition held at the State Cultural Centre,  Akure.

According to him, art speaks about the present, past and the future, saying if the exhibition continued, it would create avenue for self sustainer’s when it come to revenue or economy for people in that field.

He said, the youth are not too young to become  professional artists, so if they can catch them young, the future of that industry would be bright because they would understand that from the onset.

“This exhibition therefore offers the opportunity for our intending artists to showcase their talents and to encourage others to boost their skills to produce art and other creative works that can be promoted anywhere in the world.

“Creative Arts e.g Visual Arts, music, dance, drama, paintings, mat weaving and other cultural practices, inheritance and engagements have been discovered to be our area of strength in Africa,” he said.

Olurimisi, noted that what we need is the requisite, technical knowhow to translate these to wealth and to replicate such with our upcoming youths for continuity and sustainable employment.

He commended the efforts of the tutors for the brilliant initiative of taking creativity and the exhibition of same outside the classroom.

He encouraged them not to rest on their oars but to forge ahead to organise similar exhibition across the cultural zones and the senatorial districts in the state to bring up talents that we can showcase.

He promised that the state government will be happy to see more of that and provide the necessary support needed to propagate their works.

The State chairman of the association, Dr Ojo G.A, urged all the parents not to resist their children whenever they are drawing.

According to him, Art is life and life is Art, there is no way they could be separated. Added that the majority of their works they do centered on the culture of their people.
