Failure to correct ‘ll promote corrupt leaders – Ogun REC

Failure among Nigerians to correct their political leaders in the country from engaging in wrong doings will continue to lead to the enforcement of corrupt leaders to occupy position.
This assertion was the belief of Ogun State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Professor Abdulganiyu Olayinka, while delivering a lecture with the theme “Nigeria : Where Did We Get It Wrong ” at the public lecture of the League of Imams Akureland in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
According to him, ” The failure on the part of citizens to confront their leaders without violence to make them do what is right will continue to make their leaders to continue to cheat them”
Olayinka, who noted that citizens lack the attitude towards putting leaders particularly politicians on the right path has contributed to problems being faced in the country.
He added that minister handling any projects own citizens of the country explanation on any suspicion about project
” Nigerians have the right to visit political appointees to give explanation on any suspicion about project ” he explained
The INEC commissioner noted desist from worshipping money and habit of passing through the back door to achieve one’s ambition as among remedies, the Muslim community must encourage so as to change Nigeria for better.
“,Giving honour to whom is due is permissible, but the worshipping of money is wrong” he said
Olayinka, who noted that Nigeria got it wrong for leaving the path of God and worship another god said immorality is too pronounced in the society due to the failure on the part of parents to monitor their children and encourage them on the right path.
He pointed out that Nigeria is a blessed country with abundant natural resources to enrich its citizens and for the development of the country but failed to get this achieved as a result of its mismanagement of the endowed resources as well as immaturity among Nigerians to manage independence of Nigeria for the progress of the country
He also noted promotion of exaggerated news among journalists in the country which he said it contributes a lot to the challenges being faced in the country urged journalists to investigate thoroughly on issue or incident before it is being published.
He equally called for orderliness among the Muslim leaders from promoting money worshipping and correct the wrong like (corruption , examination malpractices among their children) in the society
He called for the promotion of religious teaching in line with the Islamic injunction that will discourage people from what God is forbidden.
“If we fear God this country will better for it” he explained
While enlightening the gathering to contribute to the pro!option of indigenous companies in the country he said promotion given to foreign companies against the indigenous ones contributed to the downfall of the country’s economy
Earlier, the Chairman of the event, Alhaji Zulqaarayn Kolapo, described the topic of the event as solution to the country’s challenges
He commended the initiative of the league of Imams for the programme to promote Islamic religion in the state.
