A 28-year old man, Victor Ojukwu, has been arrested by men of the Ondo State Police Command for allegedly impersonating a military officer and harassing residents in Idanre.
According to a statement signed by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Olushola Ayanlade and made available to The Hope, the suspect, who resides in the Sunview area of Akure, was apprehended on October 13, 2025, following credible intelligence.
The Divisional Police Officer of Idanre Division reportedly led a team of officers to effect the arrest.
Upon searching the suspect and his vehicle, police recovered two camouflage handkerchiefs, one whistle, a fake military identity card and emblems, two Nigerian flags bearing the suspect’s picture, a horsewhip, and a pair of military camouflage socks.
The Police said the swift action of the DPO and his team prevented further intimidation of residents and helped restore public confidence in the area.
The state Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, condemned the act, describing it as a serious offence that undermines national security and public trust in law enforcement agencies.
He assured that the suspect would be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted.
The Commissioner also urged residents of Ondo State to remain alert and report suspicious activities to the Police.
The Command warned that impersonation of security personnel remains a criminal offence and would be met with full legal action.
