A 48-year-old farmer, Giwa Ojo, has been arraigned before an Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting at Oke-Eda, for allegedly having in his possession one pump action gun, which he could not give satisfactory account.
The accused was brought before the Magistrate, Mrs Victoria Bob-Manuel, on one-count charge of unlawfully possession of firearm.
According to the charge, Ojo committed the offence on January 23, 2019 at Idoani forest reserve in the Ondo State Magisterial District.
The alleged offence was said to be contrary to and punishable under section 430(1) of the Criminal Code Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State.
The accused person pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him.
The prosecuting counsel, Sgt. Adebayo Sulaiman, asked the court for an adjournment to enable him gather his witnesses.
Messr T.A Oyolola, who appeared for the accused did not oppose the application for adjournment made by the prosecutor.
But he prayed the court to grant his client bail in most liberal term, since it is a bailable offence.
The Chief magistrate, Mrs Victoria Bob-Manuel, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N200,000, with one credible and substantial surety in like sum.
She directed that the matter be transfered to Idoani Magistrates’ Court for mention and adjourned the case till February 28, 2019 for mention.
