Farmer arraigned over motorcycle theft

The Ekiti State Police Command on Tuesday arraigned a 27-year-old farmer, Momolosho Olanrewaju, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged stealing of a motorcycle.

The defendant, who is a father of two and resident of Odo-Oro Ekiti  in Ikole local government area of the state, is standing trial on one count of stealing.

According to the prosecutor, Inspector Olubu Apata, the defendant committed the offence  on April 14, at about 2p.m at Odo-Oro Ekiti.

Apata alleged that the defendant, a yam farmer, stole one black Bajaj boxer motorcycle valued at N390,000, belonging to one Abiodun Bamidele.

He said the offence contravened Section 320 (1) (a) of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State 2021.

The prosecutor told the court he would call three witnesses to testify in the case. He asked for an adjournment date to enable him study the case file and assemble his witnesses.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him, while he had  no legal representation.

Chief Magistrate Saka Afunso, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

He adjourned the case till May 18 for a hearing.
