By Kayode Afolabi, Ore

A Chief Magistrate’s Court in Odigbo has sentenced a 23-year old farmer, Godwin Onah, to two years imprisonment for stealing a mobile phone.

Chief Magistrate Festus Akinlolu convicted Onah after he pleaded guilty to two counts of theft and malicious damage.

The prosecutor, Inspector Usifoh James, had informed the court that the defendant had stolen and willfully damaged a Tecno Spark 8 handset valued at ₦150,000, belonging to one James Femi.

The offence violate Sections 390(9) and 451 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

Inspector Usifoh said that there was no need for further proof, as the defendant’s statement clearly showed his guilt.

The Chief Magistrate sentenced Onah to one year imprisonment for each of the two counts, with the sentences to run concurrently.
