Farmer faces murder charge

A 24-year-old farmer, Ndubusi Friday, is currently standing  trial before an Ondo State High Court sitting in Akure over alleged murder.

The defendant was brought before Justice. Yemi Fasanmi on a count charge of murder.

According to the State prosecutor, Adenike Akinbosade, the defendant committed the offence on March 1, 2020 at Ogo Oluwa street, Ile Oluji at about 6:30pm, in Ondo State.

The prosecutor told the court that the defendant fought with one Friday and macheted him, which led to his death before getting to the hospital.

In his testimony, the Investigation Police Officer (IPO), Orherhe Eden, who is the first Prosecution Witness(PW1), told the court that one Sunday Joseph came to report at the station in Ile Oluji that two people were fighting and one of them, named Friday died on the spot.

Eden said, “ When I got to the scene of the crime,  the defendant had ran away and I only saw the matchet used on the deceased. When I got there the following day, the defendant was arrested.

He said the defendant’s case file and the blood stained matched have been  transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) n Akure for discreet investigation.

He further disclosed that after the defendant was arrested, he confessed to have committed the crime and the statement of the defendant was written down.

The state prosecutor  sought for an adjournment to present the second witness.

The defence counsel, Gilbert  Ojo Charles did not oppose the prosecutor’s application.

Justice Yemi Fasanmi, in his ruling, adjourned the case till March 29, 2023 for further hearing.
