Farmer in court for aiding kidnappers

Men of Amotekun Corps have arraigned a farmer, William Bassey, before an Akure Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly procuring information and buying food items for kidnappers.
The defendant is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy, aiding and abetting.
The prosecuting counsel, DS Msonter-Shagba told the court that the defendant, sometimes in July, 2024 at Ilu Abo, Ondo State, gathered and gave information to kidnappers for the purpose of kidnapping.
She alleged that the accused was aiding kidnappers by buying and supplying food items to them.
According to the prosecutor, the offences are punishable under Sections 5(1) and 11 of the Ondo State Anti-kidnapping and Anti- abduction Law, 2010.
Shagba made an application for the remand of the defendant in the correctional centre, pending the advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), in the State Ministry of Justice.
The defence counsel, Kehinde Osadugba opposed the remand application. He urged the court to give the defendant the privilege to file counter affidavits to the applications.
The presiding Magistrate, T.I. Ayodele adjourned the case till July18, 2024, for ruling on the remand.
