From Sade Adewale, Ondo

A missing 50-year-old woman, identified as Kudirat Abolarinwa, has been found dead in a bush after she was raped and macheted in Lekere, Ayeyemi area of Ondo West Local Government area of the state.

Meanwhile, the police have launched manhunt against the fleeing suspect.

The Hope Metro learnt that the deceased had been declared missing before her lifeless body was eventually found on Saturday.

One of the residents who spoke on condition of anonymity said the deceased, went with the suspect to buy plantain in a farm and she was attacked by the same man on their way.

The man, it was learnt, went to the area last Thursday, to ask for the people selling plantain he wanted to sell.

He said: “The people he met on the farm told him the plantain sellers were not around.

” So, he left and came back on Friday to ask again for the people and unknowingly, the deceased followed him to the farm where she met her untimely death.”

The deceased’s husband, Abolarinwa, who led the search, had approached the Enu-Owa Police Division in the area to report the incident.

Policemen at the division confirmed that the woman had been missing, before her decomposing body was found in the forest.

They stated that Abolarinwa claimed the family became apprehensive when the victim, who had left home on Friday, did not return.

Circumstances leading to the death of the woman were uncertain, but the police said a bag containing a small paper was found at the scene.

According to them, the paper read the suspect was released from Segede prison on February 6, 2024.

Our correspondent further gathered from the police that there were signs of violent marks on her body as she was found naked with machet cuts.

An investigation had since commenced to unravel the circumstances surrounding her death.

The body of the deceased had been deposited at the morgue in Ondo city while efforts are ongoing to arrest the culprit.
