Farmer remanded over N3m fraud

A 49-year-old farmer, Lukman Olaopa, has been remanded in Segede Correctional Centre by the Ondo Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting at Oka, for obtaining N3,240,000 from a woman.

The defendant was brought before Magistrate Toyin Olowookere, on a two-count charge of fraud and obtaining money falsely.

According to the prosecution, the defendant defrauded the complainant, one Victoria Adegoke, between year 2015 and 2016, at No 43, Akintunde Street, off General Hospital road.

The alleged offence contravenes Sections 516 and 419 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

The plea of the defendant was not taken when the charge was read to him.

The prosecutor, Supol Iyabo Omolara, prayed the court to remand the defendant in prison custody pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The defendant was not legally represented in the court.

Magistrate Olowookere granted the application made by the prosecutor and ordered that the case file be transferred to the DPP’s office in the Ministry of Justice for advice.

She adjourned the case till July,31, 2024, for legal advice.
