Farmers make case for dilapidated roads in Akoko communities

Rural farmers in Akoko have once again urged Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to include key farm roads in the state’s rehabilitation plans for the year.
The affected roads include Okeagbe to Erusu, Okeagbe to Igashi, and Afin to Omodun to Omuo Ekiti, which residents say are in dire condition and crucial to agricultural activities in the region.
Speaking with The Hope in separate telephone interviews, the farmers, represented by Alhaji Saliu Aro from Afin Akoko and Mr. Alaba Ajongbade from Erusu Akoko, noted the economic importance of the roads.
They noted that rehabilitating them would significantly boost food production and reduce the hardship faced by farmers in transporting their crops to markets.
“The poor state of these roads makes it difficult and expensive to move farm produce.”
“If the government prioritizes their rehabilitation, it will ease transportation, lower costs, and encourage more people to engage in farming,” Aro said.
The farmers also called on the newly elected council chairmen and councilors to work with the governor in ensuring that farm roads receive urgent attention.
“We appeal to Governor Aiyedatiwa and our local government leaders to focus on roads that directly impact food supply and rural livelihoods. A good road network is essential for economic growth and development in our communities,” Ajongbade added.
