It was celebration galore last Sunday in the ancient Iju town of Akure North Local Government when the Ondo State Chairman of All Progressives Congress, APC, Elders’ Forum, Senator Olorunnimbe Farukanmi celebrated his 80th birthday
APC leaders and members across the state, friends, old students and family members gathered to celebrate the octogenarian and second republic senator.
The celebration which drew notable personalities from all walks of life was held at St. Stephen Anglican Church Iju in Akure North Local Government
From St. Stephen Anglican Church Iju , venue of the church service to his expansive residence where guests were treated to a sumptuous reception, the roll call of the guests was impressive.
Among the dignitaries at the elaborate birthday ceremony were the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, his deputy, Lucky Ayedatiwa, Secretary to the State Government, Princess Oladunni Odu, Minister of State for Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Tayo Alasoadura, Ondo State APC Chairman Ade Adetimehin, Ademola Adegoroye and Kenneth Adekunle.
In her tribute, wife of the celebrant, Mrs. Abike Farukanmi described her husband as a special husband anybody can pray to have as well as greatest gift from God to her.
She described him as straight forward, very honest, hardworking and abhors laziness.
Ayotola, Adedayo and Adebiyi described their father as a very principled, brave, intelligent, dutiful, loving, caring, a giver and lover of God among others
On behalf of the grandchildren, Tumi Owolabi described the celebrant as someone with silver in his hair and gold in his heart.
Earlier in his sermon at the birthday thanksgiving service, Retired Bishop of Akure Anglican Diocese, Rt Revd Micheal Ipinmoye described Senator Farukanmi as a God–fearing man, who is dedicated to the service of God and a selfless person.
Senator Farukanmi who could not hide his joy thanked God for sparing his life and family for allowing him to celebrate his 80th birthday in good health on earth.
Highlights of the elaborate ceremony was the cutting of the birthday cake with many dignitaries identifying with the celebrant
