Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu yesterday described leader of the the Pan Yoruba Socio Cultural Group, Afenifere Pa Reuben Fasonranti as one of the heroes of the nation’s democratic environment.
Akeredolu who was represented by his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa said this at the 95th birthday celebration of the Afenifere Leader and dedication of a chapel built in his honour by the Old Students of Iju-Itagbolu Grammar School.
The Governor said that Fasonranti fought for political, agricultural, religious differences in Nigeria, though might be old but still alive fighting injustice in the country.
He promised that: “we will make sure that the labour of our heroes are not in vain.
“Keeping the legacies of this icon takes a lot of dedication, because he is a principled and honest man. When I saw the celebrant’s old pictures, they reminded me of Herbert Macaulay in his days with bow tie, young man, handsome and vibrant. Although, old but still handsome
“We should all emulate and follow the footpath of Baba as the leader of the Yoruba race.’’
Also eulogizing Baba Fasonranti, the Bishop of Anglican Communion, Akure Diocese, Bishop Simeon Borokini thanked God for sparing the life of the celebrant to see the light of the day describing him as a principled and honest man.
He said the chapel was dedicated to him because of his selflessness towards the Anglican Communion and the school in general
His words: “Throughout his days as the Commissioner for Finance in Ondo State, there was never a case of embezzlement or mismanagement of government funds against him. That was a typical example of a honest leader, mentor and father to many.’
