Fasua tasks Councillors on grassroots development

By Oluwadamilola Akinduro

Newly inaugurated councillors of Akure South Local Government have been charged with the responsibility of driving grassroots development and ensuring that the dividends of democracy reach the people.

The call was made by the Chairman of Akure South Local Government, Dr. Gbenga Fasua, during the swearing-in ceremony of the Secretary to the Local Government, Mrs. Rosemary Adeola and 11 ward councillors.

The event, which took place at the council secretariat in Akure, followed the January 18, 2025, local government elections, where the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured all 203 councillorship seats across Ondo State.

Addressing the newly sworn-in officials, Fasua urged them to be committed to their responsibilities and work towards improving the standard of living of their constituents.

“Our people have entrusted us with their mandate, and we must not fail them. Development at the grassroots is a priority, and I expect all councillors to actively engage in initiatives that will positively impact their wards,” Fasua said.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to infrastructural development, particularly in roads rehabilitation, education and public services, while also encouraging partnerships with private investors for sustainable development.

Fasua also proclaimed the commencement of the Akure South Local Government Legislative Council, in line with constitutional provisions.

“In accordance with Section 7, Subsection 1 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Part 3, Subsection 1 of the Ondo State Law of 1999, and other enabling laws, I hereby declare the first session of the Akure South Local Government Legislative Council open,” he announced.

He called on the newly inaugurated councillors to uphold democratic principles and work harmoniously in the interest of their wards.
