Fayemi inaugurates Education Secretaries

Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi has charged stakeholders involved in school management to key into the transformation agenda of his administration towards returning education to its pride of place in the state.
Fayemi, who gave the charge in Ado-Ekiti at the weekend while inaugurating the Education Secretaries of the 16 Local Government Education Authorities in the state. He reiterated the commitment of his administration to clear the rot in the system, noting that the experience of the last four years led to a drastic fall in the enrolment of children of school age in public primary schools in the state.
The Governor, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr Biodun Omoleye said his recent proclamation which abolished payment of education development levy by pupils in all public primary and secondary schools in the state as well as the scrapping of education tax in all schools was done to arrest the slide in the sector.
He urged the newly appointed Education Secretaries to live above board and work tirelessly towards the actualization of the transformational initiatives of his Administration in the state’s basic education sector.
He said as a first step towards upgrading facilities in schools across the state like he did during his first tenure, a team of experts is already evaluating facilities in schools in readiness for massive rehabilitation aimed at making all schools, in the state conducive for teaching and learning.
Earlier in her address, the Permanent Secretary of Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board(SUBEB), Dr (Mrs)Eunice Oladimeji charged the education secretaries to abide by their oath of office and code guiding the activities of public servants in the state.
She said as representatives of SUBEB at the third tier of government they were expected to faithfully implement basic educational programmes and policies as well as generate regular feedback for the board at the grass roots .
Responding on behalf of the appointees, the new Education Secretary of Ijero Local Government, Mr Adewale Egbeyemi pledged to perform their duties effectively.
