Ekiti State Governor’s wife, Mrs Bisi Fayemi, has frowned at series of reported forms of violence against women and female child in society, calling on institutions and individuals to collaborate and end the trend.
The governor’s wife, who identified three forms of violence against women as physical, sexual and psychological, urged female gender never to keep quiet in an attempt to support a culture of impunity and terror.
Mrs Fayemi, who spoke on “Gender-Based Violence: Say No to Violence, Act Right Now”
during the 17th Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference of Association of Resident Doctors at FETHI, said: “Conventional statistics has informed that one out of three women has been a victim or will be a victim of either one or a combination of these factors in life”.
Buttressing with the stories of women who were victims of domestic violence, Mrs Fayemi captured the attention of the gathering consisting of representatives of Mater Christi Catholic Girls High School, Igede-Ekiti, Christ School, Ado-Ekiti, ABUAD Medical College and Landmark University, Omu-Aran in Kwara State.
She charged the gathering, “If you are committed to ending or at least minimising violence against women or girls, we should be prepared to engage in challenging and transforming all the institutions and processes which continue to undermine the progress of women and girls, regardless of their age, class and social standing. Our ultimate goal should be changing the story of abuse and violation and increase the number of choices that women have.
