The Ondo State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has put in place a caretaker committee that will steer the affairs of the association for three months.

The union had last year witnessed a botched election that could have ushered in new  executives.

The out gone Chairman, Wahab Bankole while commending the members of the association at a special congress held at the association’s secretariat in Akure the state capital for their support and solidarity towards the achievements of the association in the past, said the past executive had raised the bar on how the association was managed and had achieved professional heights.

He said: “The welfare of members of the association is always paramount and with the little resources we did our best to promote your welfare,” he said.

“The association also secured more slots for members who covered the national sports festival in Asaba on the bill of Ondo State Government,” he said.

The congress had dissolved the caretaker committee after the chairman announced his intention not to continue as the caretaker Chairman of the association. This led to nomination of new care taker committee, which produced Mr .Femi Dairo of NTA, as chairman of the committee, while Adewale Momoh of the Correspondents Chapel emerged Secretary and Sukanmi Elujoba member.

The caretaker Chairman defeated Isaac Afolabi with 16 to 15 votes, while the two others emerged through consensus.

Responding, Mr Femi Dairo said the association remained one family and must work as a team to move the association forward.

Dairo said he would ensure that he set the ball rolling to ensure that election is held within the next 90 days of the caretaker committee to usher in a new executives.

The National Officers and former State Chairman of the association, Mr Akintunde Akinsemola, urged members to renew their membership before the end of the month.
