As part of efforts to alleviate the pains and loss incurred during the year 2022 flood disaster in many parts of the country, the Federal Government, has distributed fishing inputs to fisher-folks in the state.
Speaking while handing over the items to the fisher-folks at the premises of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Alagbaka, Akure, the state Commissioner for Agriculture and Forestry, Mr Olayato Aribo appreciated the Federal Government on behalf of the state of government for the kind gesture.
The Commissioner added that the state government was expecting more intervention initiatives from the Federal Government so as to boost agricultural practices in the state.
He also used the occasion to appreciate Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, for what he’s been doing to encourage farmers to guarantee food security and sufficiency in the state, such as payment of counterpart funds, giving out farming inputs to farmers among others.
He, charged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of items received so that they could add value to their business.
In his address, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security Coordinator in the state, Mr Hakeem Ogundeko appreciated President Bola Tinubu for the approval given for the procurement of the items.
He added that federal government will do more in terms of support to farmers in the state, adding that dry season farming would be supported by the Ministry in the state so that farming activities could be all year round ventures.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr Felix Akintunwa appreciated the Federal and Ondo State Government for coming to their aid at this time, stressing that the gesture would go a long way in boosting their fish production businesses.
He also solicited more intervention especially in the area of feeds and other necessary item that would assist them in their business.
Items distributed were; canon, nets, smoking kiln, floater, sinker , thread and twigs.
