The efforts of the State government  with the Niger Delta Power Holding company (NDPHC) in restoring electricity back to the Southern Senatorial District of the State has received  commendation  from the people.

It would be recalled that the district has been thrown into perpetual darkness over the years due to the total disconnection done by Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), one of the distribution companies licensed by the Federal Government owing to alleged accumulations of  unpaid bills running into several millions of Naira.

There was a sigh of relief when the Executive Director, NDPHC, Engr Ife Oyedele  during a  courtesy visit to the area recently disclosed that the entire Okitipupa division would soon begin to enjoy uninterrupted power supply as government has already concluded the process.

In a separate interview with The Hope,  the Abodi of Ikale Land, HRM. Oba Faduyile and the Jegun of Idepe, Okitipupa, HRM. Oba Adetoye Michael said receiving the good news have given the people reprieve against following the negative impact of the prolonged outage and the cheering news from the NDPHC boss.

In his own reactions, Oba Faduyile commended the bold steps taken by the state government in proffering solution to the menace.

He described the situation as what has lingered for many years and seriously affected the wellbeing of the people with little or no attention from the previous administration.

He commended the efforts of the NDPHC boss, Engr. Ife Oyedele and called for more cooperation and synergy with BEDC so to make the results visible.

In his contributions, the Jegun of Idepe Okitipupa, HRM. Oba Adetoye Michael said the economy of the people has been crippled, and business owners are finding it difficult to survive following the prolonged  blackout.

He noted that other social vices such as armed robbery, stealing, kidnapping has become the order of the day  as evil doers now hide under the covers of the darkness.

The kabiyesi however appealed to government to expedite action on the completion of the electricity projects particularly the high tension line coming from Omotosho with a substation at Erinje.

Also,  speaking with The Hope,  Chairman, All Progressive Congress, Okitipupa Local Government, Mr. Ikulala  Olabode said the situation has brought an untold hardships on the people most especially the business operators.

He however believes that with the speed at which the electrification is being carried out and coupled with the assurance given by the government, the issue of darkness would soon become a thing of the past.

He appealed to the people to be calm, have patience and be vigilant by helping government to secure the equipment that has been installed from being vandalized.
