Fight AIDS Africa urges support for patients

Fight AIDS Africa has urged stakeholders to prioritise the provision of palliatives and alternative drug therapy to mitigate the impact of HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and hepatitis, following the recent suspension of the USAID programme by the administration of former US President Donald Trump.
The organisation specifically called on the Federal Government, the Ondo State Government, and the Ondo State Agency for the Control of AIDS (ODSACA) to take proactive measures in safeguarding the lives of people battling these diseases.
Executive Director of Fight AIDS Africa Youth Organisation, Mr Junaid Adeyemi, in a statement issued in Akure, emphasised the need to sustain the 0.1 per cent prevalence rate recorded by both the federal and state AIDS control agencies.
He stressed the urgency of providing alternative treatment and implementing robust policies to ensure the well-being of persons living with HIV/AIDS, warning that the suspension of the USAID programme could exacerbate the spread of the virus in the country.
