A petrol station in Akure  metropolis and a telecommunication mast substation in Ondo town, were gutted by fire on Tuesday.

The Hope Metro gathered that fire engulfed the tankers dispensing fuel and diesel at the two stations.

The incident in Akure happened at a petrol station along Dammy bus stop in Ijoka area of the state capital.

An eyewitness said fire engulfed the petrol station while a tanker was dispensing fuel.

Fire fighters were said to be on ground to put out the fire.

Also, the Ondo fire incident happened at Oluwatoyin street, Akinjagunla area of Ondo west, when a tanker discharging diesel to a telecommunication mast in the densely populated street suddenly went up in flames.

The Hope Metro gathered that the fire was caused by the driver after he dropped his lighted cigarette butt on the floor where he was offloading the diesel at MTN mast service provider signal.

It was learnt that some houses were touched by the inferno, which started around 1:30 pm.

Speaking with The Hope Metro, one Mr Emmanuel Olorunmodupe said,” The fire broke out because of the cigarette butt the driver dropped on the floor when he wanted to offload diesel at the service provider signal.

Olorunmodupe  said that there was no fire service on ground to put out the inferno, which led to panic among  the people  of the area.

A police source at the scene who confirmed the incident said the situation was under control.

He noted that though some buildings were affected by the fire, no life was lost, adding that the driver  who was injured, had been taken to the hospital for treatment
