The Ondo State Fire Service, on Monday said  it has recorded no fewer than 127 fire incidents across the state from October  2018 till date.

Director of the state Fire Service, Mr Phillip Adanlawo,  disclosed this in an exclusive interview with The Hope Metro at the headquarter of their office in Alagbaka, Akure, the Ondo State capital.

Adanlawo blamed the high rate of fire outbreaks in the state on high level of unconsciousness in the handling of fire and other inflammable materials.

He stated that many preventable deaths have occurred due to fire incidents, while valuables worth billions of naira were being lost regularly to avoidable fire outbreaks.

According to him, out of the 127 outbreaks, 15 lives were lost, four persons severely injured, and 11 persons saved, while estimated billions of naira property have been destroyed.

He pointed out that some of the fire cases were mostly caused by negligence saying the service has  been empowered to take any form of  natural or man made fire across the state.

He, therefore, appealed  to residence to utilise the emergency  toll free numbers to report any case of fire incidents so as to avert loss of lives and property.

Adanlawo, thanked the State Governor. Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, for his kind gesture to the service.
