Five die, one injured in Ibadan crash
Five individuals lost their lives in a tragic road accident at the Akobo axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Friday, leaving one person critically injured.
According to the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), six others involved in the crash were rescued without any injuries. The injured victim is currently receiving treatment at Metro Hospital in Akobo, situated in Lagelu Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The FRSC confirmed the incident in its Road Traffic Crash (RTC) First Information Report, attributing the accident to a head-on collision involving two commercial vehicles—a red Micra car and another vehicle whose make was not specified.
The report highlighted that the crash claimed five lives, leaving one critically injured while six others escaped unscathed.
“The Police has taken the injured victim to Metro Hospital before the arrival of Road Safety personnel while the accident vehicle has been towed to Akobo Police Station,” the report stated.
It also noted that the FRSC has warned motorists to avoid route violations to prevent similar tragedies on highways.
