Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, yesterday commissioned 5.44 kilometres Araromi-Obu township road in Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.
The road project is one of the numerous projects being commissioned to mark the Governor’s 100 days of his second term in office.
Commissioning the project, Akeredolu said the project would be of great advantage to the people as it would open up a lot of socioeconomic activities in all the affected communities.
Akeredolu explained that the project which he described as iconic, spread over ten communities in the town.
“Why is it iconic? It is because it can be akin to what we can call urban renewal. It is not just one narrow road. It is network of roads which spread over ten communities”, the Governor stressed.
The ten communities that benefited from the roads include Better Life, Moferere, Surulere, Iyaoba, Hospital, Ayesan, Ajewole, Royal, Kolejo and Okeli roads, all in Araromi-Obu town.
The people of the town who could not hide their joy over the road construction, took to the street in their large numbers to welcome the Governor and his entourage to the ancient town.
Akeredolu charged the people to take ownership of the project and protect it against any forms of damage. He particularly urged the residents to avoid burning of tyres and dumping of refuse on the roads, so that, it can serve them for a very long time.
While assuring the people of Odigbo Local Government of more road projects, the Governor also pledged that new companies would still spring up to accelerate the state economy.
He added that lot of developmental projects have been executed by his administration in Odigbo Local Government among which are Ondo-Linyi Industrial Park, Ore flyover interchange, among several others, saying his administration would not relent in its infrastructural strides.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Lands and Infrastructure, Mr Raimi Aminu who described the road as part of Governor Akeredolu’s campaign promises to the people explained that government paid more on the construction following the absence of construction materials in the axis.
In their separate remarks, the Ajobu of Araromi-Obu, Oba Aderemi Adelola and a member of House of Representatives representing Odigbo/ Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Federal Constituency, Hon. Mayowa Akinfolarin, commended Governor Akeredolu for the projects saying the town had never enjoyed such gesture from the state government.
Oba Adelola Aderemi, said the people of the town cannot thank the Governor enough for the road project which he noted has put an end to their long time suffering, and improve the socioeconomic activities of all the affected areas.
He described Governor Akeredolu as a man of his words who does not engage in mere sophistry, saying history would not forget him for his strong conviction and total commitment to the infrastructural development of the state.
