Over 1,000 farmers in Ondo state who were affected by flood in 2020 were among the 382,208 farmers across Nigeria listed to benefit from the free farm inputs to be distributed to them by the Federal Government.
The Ondo State Chairman of Agricultural Commodities Association OSACA, Mr Gbenga Obaweya made this known in a chat with The Hope while reacting on the state’s inclusiveness in the programme.
Obaweya hinted that affected farmers in the state who would benefit from the Federal Government’s initiative have earlier been captured during the digital capturing process conducted by the federal government.
He disclosed that some of the relief materials to be given have began to arrive the state which he believed would be distributed as soon as the expected materials have been fully delivered.
According to him, the most affected are the crop farmers who, he said, will be given agricultural inputs to replant with a view to getting back their lost towards meeting food sufficiency and sustainability.
The Kebbi State Governor and Vice Chairman of the National Food Security Council (NFSC), Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, at the flag -off of the distribution of the free farm inputs in Birnin-Kebbi, said the items distributed include, assorted seeds, seedlings, pumping machines, agrochemicals, sprayers and other related inputs.
He noted that those who engaged in livestock production would benefit from the invaluable gesture of the Federal Government through the National Emergency Management Agency of Nigeria (NEMA), as the agency has collaborated with its partners to duly register all beneficiaries.
He disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari, has approved the provision of insurance covers to the beneficiaries which would not need future support in case of any flood eventualities.
