Renowned gospel musician, Amusayin Temitope Mary, popularly known as Peculiar Sings, has urged aspiring gospel artistes not to pursue gospel music for financial gain but to focus on winning souls for God’s kingdom through their talents. She shared this during an interview with Weekend Extravaganza.
According to her, the reward for such dedication is immeasurable.
Temitope, a native of Oke-Ako in Ekiti State and a graduate of Chemistry Education from Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, said singing and praising God is her calling.
Temitope emphasized that gospel music is a divine calling, and anyone venturing into it must be called by God. She noted that such a calling not only ensures success but also helps musicians create spiritually uplifting songs.
“Gospel musicians don’t just sing; they need to deliver songs that bring light to people in the world,” she said.
Speaking further, she explained, “You may have a great voice, but as a musician, I can tell you that breaking into the music industry is harder than in other fields.
“Aspiring musicians must sharpen their skills with the right mentors, work hard, and embrace education, which can enhance their knowledge, broaden their connections, and instill the discipline needed for a successful career.”
Peculiar Sings added that a career in gospel music is meant for a select few who are truly called. She stated, “The audience is small, and opportunities are limited. Only those who are truly dedicated to their calling can thrive.
