Focus on your core mandate, Osun NSCDC charges officers
By Michael Ofulue, Osogbo
Officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Osun State command have been urged to channel their energy on mandates of the corps in order to live up to the expectations of the members of the public and justify the existence of the corps.
The State Commandant, Michael Adaralewa gave the charged during a maiden management meeting with its officers in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.
According to him, it is imperative to dwell more on core mandates of the Corps than concentrating on complementary ones.
He urged the personnel to discharge their duties in line with global best practice because members of the public expect so much from us, hence the need to effectively deliver the mandates given to the corps.
He enjoined them to continued to wage war against act of vandalism of public utilities, illegal dealings in petroleum products, illegal mining of solid minerals, quackery in private guards among others.
While saying there is need for officers to always respect fundamental human rights of members of the public, the Commandant frowned at the manner some officers violate rights of the citizens.
He warned against unauthorized arrest adding that any arrests must be subject for approval.
” No officer should lay hands on innocent citizen while discharging their duties, saying whoever flouts this order would be dealt with accordingly.”
The Osun NSCDC boss also harped on training and retraining of personnel, which he said would help to map out strategies on how to put an end to security challenges bedeviling the country.
He also noted that training would instil discipline into the personnel.
He, thereafter, urged all Area Commanders across the state command to prioritize training of their personnel in order to enhance effective service delivery to the nation
