Food sufficiency: Adeleke flags off distribution of inputs

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has flagged off the distribution of farm inputs to farmers to assist in boosting food production across the state.
At the launch of the distribution in Oriade Federal Constituency, the Governor affirmed his commitment to enhancing the agricultural sector for food sufficiency.
The Governor, who was represented at the ceremony by the Commissioner for Agriculture, Tola Faseru, emphasised that his administration will continue to introduce programmes and policies designed to bolster the agricultural sector and attract necessary investment for its growth and development.
Discussing the project, carried out in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, the Governor explained that it aims to address key challenges in the sector to restore the glory of farming and the joy of rural living.
He noted that agriculture remains the backbone of the nation’s economy through the provision of employment and food, stating that the programme targets beneficiaries in all the local governments across the state.
In his address, the Minister for Agriculture and Food Security, represented by the State Coordinator for the Ministry, Mr Taye Ayegoro, revealed that the federal government’s goal is to put food on the table of every household.
Also speaking, Special Adviser to the Governor on Agriculture, Food Security, OSADEP, and OSADEC, Niran Atidade noted that farmers and small-scale agro-processors have been facing difficulties due to the current economic challenges in the country.
Atidade highlighted that the Adeleke’s administration has introduced various programmes aimed at sustaining livelihoods through social interventions and economic empowerment initiatives.
In his welcome address, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Mr Moruf Olawale, while appreciating the government’s good gesture, urged the farmers to make effective use of the materials.
Items distributed included cassava stems, fertilisers, spraying machines, and more.
