The Osun state governor, Gboyega Oyetola has decried the decline in the quality of programmes being aired by many broadcasting stations in Nigeria.

The Governor  expressed his displeasure while playing host to the alumni of the first television station in Africa, the Western Nigeria Television, WNTV, in his office.

Oyetola while decrying the decline in the quality of programmes put on air by many broadcasting stations stressed that most foreign stations are fast eroding Nigeria’s rich culture and traditions.

He commended the initiative of the alumni of WNTV stressing that history must be put right to ensure  that the younger generation have full knowledge of how television commenced in Africa.

The governor said history is sacred and must be passed  don to generations coming behind in order to know the origin of what they are dealing with.

He promised to give the association the needed support for it to achieve its needed objectives for the 60th anniversary of television in Africa.

Earlier, the alumni association of WNTV led by former ambassador to the Philippines, Dr Yemi Farounbi, said the association is planning to celebrate 60 years of television and tele-visioning in Africa.

Farounbi said “this will enable us showcase the relevance of television and how to make use of it”.
