Former Appeal Court worker docked for job scam

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arraigned a former staff of the Court of Appeal, Munirat Abdulazeez, over allegations of involvement in a job racketeering scam.
A statement signed by Demola Bakare, Director of Public Enlightenment and Education at the ICPC, revealed that Abdulazeez was charged before Justice Godwin Iheabunke of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Bwari, Abuja, for allegedly defrauding job seekers by promising them employment in top government agencies, including the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), and the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).
The ICPC alleged that Munirat, also known as Jummai, collected a total of ₦9.2 million from eight unsuspecting victims between September 2022 and July 2023 under false pretences of securing federal jobs for them.
“She obtained the money through false pretence, which violates Section 1(1)(a) of the Advanced Fee Fraud Act 2006,” said Mr. Hamza Sani, counsel representing the ICPC.
The accused initially failed to appear in court, prompting Justice Iheabunke to issue a warrant for her arrest. She was subsequently brought before the court and pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge filed against her.
After hearing submissions from both the prosecution and the defence, Justice Iheabunke granted her bail in the sum of ₦10 million, with two sureties each in like sum. The court further ordered that the sureties must own property within Abuja and submit the title documents to the court registrar.
The matter was adjourned to June 20, 2025, to enable the ICPC to present its witnesses.
