Former Sunshine Queens captain, Taiwo Ajibade, and her teammate, Taiwo Aganmuyi, have signed two-year contracts with Rivers Angels, marking a significant move for the players ahead of the 2024/25 Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) season.
Ajibade, who spent four seasons with Sunshine Queens, is known for her attacking prowess and dribbling skills.
She contributed three goals and two assists during the 2023/24 NWFL season, earning a spot in the team of the week following her standout performance against FC Robo on matchday 10.
Aganmuyi, a fast and dynamic attacker, played for Sunshine Queens for two seasons before joining Rivers Angels. Her dedication to the Akure-based club was evident, and she is set to further her football career with the Port Harcourt team.
Speaking with Sporting Hope, both players expressed gratitude to Sunshine Queens for shaping their careers.
“Sunshine Queens will always remain an important part of us. The experience we gained there has made our transition to another big team seamless,” they said.
The duo were among 14 players unveiled by Rivers Angels at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Elekahia, as part of preparations for the new season.
Rivers Angels, who last claimed the league title three years ago, will aim to dethrone Delta Queens and Edo Queens, champions of the past two seasons, as they bid to reclaim their dominance in the NWFL.
