Fostering virtue, integrity among women in society

Virtue is an admirable quality or attribute, a work of great merit. It is the essence of our personality and moral excellence; therefore, when we put it into practice regularly, we tend to live a purposeful life.

These are a set of attractive qualities and ways of behaving that make a person different from others and also pleasant to be with. According to research, virtues are important because they are the basic qualities necessary for our well-being and happiness.

Therefore, recognising the importance of virtues in our lives will lead to better communication, understanding, and acceptance. There is a proverb that says, “Charity begins at home.” Likewise, virtues are portrayed through one’s character and upbringing, and the teaching and learning process of these virtues starts at home. It is sad that these virtues are no longer being promoted; the importance of these virtues has been degraded, and immorality has substituted them.

Young girls, youths, and even adults today are becoming involved in immorality and vulgarity. Chastity and morality are no longer valued by females, and indecency has taken root in homes and society. The deficiency of these virtues is observed to have been caused by many factors, including upbringing. As a result of bad home influences, when a female has a poor and morally questionable upbringing, it tends to have a bad influence, thereby devaluing the moral life of the person.

This deficiency is also caused by the negative influence of society. Most females emulate whatever is in vogue, regardless of whether it is right or wrong. Adults, who are supposed to be good role models for female youths, have become bad role models through their unethical actions.

How can the virtues of modesty and decency be promoted when morality is no longer being encouraged in the world? The modest and decent females are considered as fools, while the indecent ones are seen as wise and “big girls,” leaving the modest females intimidated and disappointed.

Young girls, mostly teenagers, are being debased for unworthy profits and motives. It is appalling to know that these acts are increasing every day.

To this end, virtues should be exhibited and put into practice. These virtues include cleanliness (chastity), moral excellence, compassion, confidence, contentment, co-operation, forgiveness, generosity, friendliness, gratitude, uprightness, showing courtesy, care, faith, humility, among others.

Moral ladies display virtues evaluated as right and just. Examples include good conduct, decency, kindness, uprightness, forgiveness, and bravery.

Beauty, as one of the female virtues, truly is a virtue with an attractive quality. It can be expressed through physical appearance, a female’s mindset, or her personality and character.

However, females should not see their physical appearance as everything but rather view good character as an essential feature. It should be noted that one’s character is one’s beauty, and we shouldn’t allow this beauty to turn into pride.

Moral ladies who exhibit these virtues in their lives behave and comport themselves in ways that conform to the rules and principles of society.

Females should exhibit unity and support for one another in order to promote love and peace in society. Showing genuine happiness and love for one another, seeing ourselves as sisters, and speaking with one voice cannot be overlooked.

Loving and valuing oneself as a female is the key to happiness. Learning to love oneself will bring dignity, respect, and even contentment as a virtue. Females should understand that unhappiness sets in when comparison and discontentment are allowed.

Confidence and self-dependence are virtues that make females unique and also bring elevation to the female world. Confidence makes a female self-reliant and empowered.

Additionally, compassion as a virtue involves being kind and showing compassion to others in order to relieve them of their burdens, which is key. Females should know that the treatment we receive comes from the way we present ourselves. If you present yourself as a queen, you will definitely be treated as one. If you create the impression of being insignificant, you will be treated as such.

Promoting and encouraging these virtues should be done with the help of families and society. Families and society should help curb immorality and indecency. Females, especially mothers, should be aware that their actions have either a positive or negative influence on their daughters.

Parents should help inculcate these good virtues in their children’s minds and also teach them the importance of good conduct. Wives should demonstrate patience and humility in their homes. Mothers and women in society should serve as good role models to these young girls, who are the future mothers of society.

Virtues should be exhibited so that they can be emulated and restored. Females should live lives that reflect these good virtues, while these virtues should be appreciated in society as well.
