Four drown in Ekiti river

Okemesi-Ekiti was thrown into mourning over the weekend following the deaths of four individuals who reportedly drowned in a well-known river within the community.
Although the cause of the incident remains unclear at the time of filing this report, reliable sources revealed that two of the victims were guests at a wedding ceremony from Lagos, while the other two were residents of Okemesi-Ekiti.
The victims were said to have drowned while swimming in a popular river called Osun, located along Ajido/Ikoro-Ekiti on the outskirts of the ancient community.
A source close to the community stated that the names of the four victims remain unknown but confirmed that two of them were in the community to attend a wedding when the unfortunate incident occurred.
Another source in the town indicated that two of the deceased were from the Aworogun household in Okemesi-Ekiti, though their names are still unclear, while the other two hailed from Lagos State.
It was reported that the victims were swimming at the riverbank shortly after attending the wedding ceremony and may have consumed alcohol before entering the popular river known as “Oṣun.”
News of the tragic incident has plunged the entire community into deep mourning, with residents rushing to the river to catch a glimpse of the scene.
When contacted, the Ekiti State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Mr. Sunday Abutu, confirmed the report, though he noted that the details had not been fully communicated to his office.
The Ekiti State Police spokesperson promised to contact the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area to confirm the story.
