The wife of Ondo State Governor, Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu has led other members of the Forum for Wives of Ondo State Officials (FOWOSO) to Idanre Local Government for the eleventh edition of  empowerment programme.

The event, which took place at Olofin Anglican Grammar School, Idanre enabled women, who have been trained free on different life changing skills like shoe and bag making, beads making and make-up application among others to be given start -up kits while other women who have learnt tailoring and hair dressing but could not start due to financial challenges were given sewing machines and hair dryers.

Laptops were also given to students to aid their learning as the physically challenged also went home with wheelchairs.

While explaining the reason for the establishment of FOWOSO, the First Lady noted that the programme is aimed at empowering women and youth to be economically viable and contribute to the development of the state.

“There is need to empower women with skills that will make them economically independent and to empower our young ones so that they will be part of the equation in the digital world.

“As we train our women in the skills that will earn them a steady income from the use of grinding machines, make-up, tools among others, we also educate them on health related issues, so that they will be healthy in contributing meaningfully to the socio-economic development of the state.

We are also doing this because if women are given the chance, they can contribute productively to the economic development of the country.

“The greatest mistake any country can make is failure to carry women along because aside cooking and making babies, women can do better if economically empowered.

“This is why FOWOSO will always work towards empowering women because they can do a lot when they are empowered. We are not fighting men, but we want women to also be relevant in building their families financially, towards having peaceful homes. “

The First Lady further assured the people of more dividends of democracy as she urged the women to always support the present administration because it is a government that loves, respects and is ready to improve women’s standard of living.

While appreciating the efforts of Mrs Akeredolu for improving the health and standard of living of women across the State, the chairperson of Idanre Local Government, Mrs Adedoyinsola Ayanuola described the First Lady as a special woman for ensuring that women in the State enjoy dividends of democracy.

“I appreciate your concerns for Ondo State women’s health, which is evident in your clamour for women to embrace the Breast Cancer Association of Nigeria (BRECAN). We cannot thank you enough ma. I also thank the Governor of the State for his support for women in the State.”

The Chairperson appealed to the beneficiaries of the empowerment programme to use it to change their lives positively.

The Owa of Idanre, Oba Arubiefun Aroloye represented by High Chief Odunwo Adetuyi, thanked Mrs Akeredolu for her visit and for the steps taken to improve the lives of women in the State as he reiterated his support for the present administration.
