FRCN boss charges broadcast stations on contents

Any Broadcast outfit that lacks good and scintillating contents stands the risk of being scorned by the target audience, especially in the era of stiff competition.
The Director General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN),Dr Mansur Liman made the assertion at the opening ceremony of Radio Nigeria,Ibadan Zonal Station Content Summit held at Elizade University,Ilara Mokin, Ondo State with the theme “Commercialisation And Professionalism In Broadcasting, Striking The Balance”.
Represented by the FRCN Zonal Director of Lagos Operation, Mr Yinka Amosun, the DG submitted that content is the core component that makes up the vital organs of broadcasting as an entity.
The FRCN boss posited that even the most modern transmission accompanied by other sophisticated equipment without stimulating contents is tantamount to mere blowing empty hot air into the transmission.
In his address, the Zonal Director, FRCN Ibadan, Alhaji Mohammed Bello affirmed that broadcasting is dynamic, hence the need for practitioners to take a look at the programme schedule and be able to come up with a template that will serve the nation better.
The Chairman of the occasion and Ondo State Director of National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mr Bode Famose said FRCN has come a long way and must continue to reach out to people better than before through accurate news and enlightenment programmes.
Speaking with newsmen, the General Manager of Positive FM Akure, Mr Samson Abiodun explained that broadcasters must keep on updating themselves to meet up with the emerging trends in the industry for greater productivity.
He hinted that the summit with over 80 delegates is the first of its kind in the zonal station as all FRCN stations in the South West were well represented.
In his words, the State Chairman of Radio And Theater Art Workers Union (RATAWU),Comrade Kayode Olorunfemi described the summit as an eye opener as it will enable them to re-appraise and re-organise broadcast content for effective service delivery.
In his lecture on “Commercialisation and Professionalism,Striking the balance” ,the former Ag.Director General of FRCN, Alhaji Bola Agboola averred that come what may, professionalism must not be sacrificed, noting that Journalists can only lift their heads high if they are able to adhere to the ethics of the profession.
While maintaining that professionalism and commercialisation are entirely different ,he added that good attribute is the hallmark of a professional journalist.
The event was well attended by serving and veteran Journalists across the federation.
