The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has reiterated its swift response to the tanker explosion that rocked the Otedola Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Tuesday, March 11, 2025.

In a statement, the Corps assured the public of its unwavering commitment to road safety and emergency management, noting that its operatives promptly arrived at the scene to coordinate rescue operations alongside the Fire Service and other emergency responders.

Their swift intervention helped to contain the inferno from the burning gas truck, minimising casualties and property damage.

Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, cautioned owners and drivers of vehicles conveying hazardous materials to strictly adhere to safety protocols, stressing that negligence could lead to further tragedies.

According to an official FRSC report, the tragic incident involved 11 persons, all adult males. While five individuals sustained injuries, two were confirmed dead.

The multiple-vehicle crash, which affected 15 vehicles, was reportedly triggered by brake failure.

Speaking on the development, FRSC Public Education Officer, Mr. Olusegun Ogungbemide, expressed concerns over the avoidable nature of the crash.

He urged fleet operators to prioritise routine vehicle maintenance and ensure strict compliance with safety regulations.

He further warned that drivers and transport companies flouting safety measures would face stringent sanctions in line with the National Road Traffic Regulations.

Reaffirming the Corps’ commitment to public safety, the FRSC boss assured that resources would continuously be deployed to ensure prompt emergency response.

He also called on motorists and the general public to remain vigilant and report any road emergencies via the FRSC’s toll-free line: 122.
