The Ondo State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps has commenced ember months safety campaign in the state.
The state Deputy Corps Commandant ,FRSC, in charge of Operations, Mr. Olusegun Ogungbemide stated this in an interview with The Hope in his office.
According to him, his men have been going out to sensitise the public on the safety of motorists on the highway.
He said, “by virtue of directive from the head office, we have been mandated to carry out campaign on Ember months safety.
Our belief and African mentality is that ember period attracts lots of road accidents.
We refuse to admit the wrong belief that ember months are the precousous of accidents.
He noted that the only factor responsible is that people plying the roads were not careful enough. January does not differ from December. “We refuse to believe the fact that towards the end of the year, people are expected to die by crashes. “
What we are doing is to build on the activities we started in January. That is why we tried to keep the roads safe and sensitise the general public on the polices we have put in place to assist the public throughout this year.”
He said drivers should appreciate that people’s lives are in their hands and they must reduce overspeeding and not to be distracted. He said these are the areas they emphasise on so that they don’t get involved in road crash.
The FRSC boss stated that all corridors of the states have been taken cared of as they have mapped out so many out lets. He said,” the corridors are already safe as we have our men on the road. We have three major corridors in Ondo state: Ilesa, Akure , Owo and Benin.
“We also have Shagamu -Ijebuode- Ore -Benin. We as well have five units in Ondo. We have our emergency ambulances in various units that get to accident scene as fast as 15 minùtes across Ondo state.
” With all these in place and the campaign we are starting we want to believe our roads would be free.
