FRSC issues two-week ultimatum on vehicle, motorcycle registration in Osun

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Osun State Sector Command, has issued a two-week ultimatum to owners of unregistered vehicles and motorcycles in the state to comply with registration requirements or face enforcement action.
This was disclosed by the Sector Commander, Mr Leye Adegboyega, in a statement released by the Sector Public Education Officer, Mrs Agnes Ogungbemi, as part of activities marking the 8th United Nations Global Road Safety Week.
Commander Adegboyega expressed concern over the rising number of unregistered and improperly registered vehicles, especially those bearing fake or dealer number plates, operating on roads across the state.
He warned that such vehicles not only pose significant security risks—often being used for criminal activities—but also contribute to substantial revenue losses for the state government.
He announced that at the end of the two-week grace period, a joint enforcement operation would commence in collaboration with the Osun State Board of Internal Revenue and other relevant agencies, with an initial focus on Osogbo and its surrounding areas.
In addition to registration enforcement, the Sector Commander revealed that the FRSC would intensify efforts to curb route violations, particularly on major highways and township roads.
He referenced several tragic incidents caused by wrong-way driving, including the deaths of 31 people over two days in February 2024 and the loss of six Osun State University students in March 2025.
To address this, the FRSC has expanded its Special Intervention Patrols across key areas in the state, including the East and West Bypass in Osogbo and other strategic routes.
Commander Adegboyega also reiterated the importance of the ongoing UN Global Road Safety Week and its theme, “Streets for Life: #MakeWalkingSafe, #MakeCyclingSafe.”
He called on the public and the media to support road safety initiatives through collective action, public education, and compliance with traffic regulations.
