FUOYE students develop solar stove

Students from the Mechatronics Engineering Department of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti (FUOYE) have successfully designed and built a solar-powered stove using locally sourced materials.

The initiative, undertaken by 400-level students of the department as part of their practical assessment for the First Semester course, MTE 407: Sensors & Actuators, was supervised by Professor M.O. Arowolo. The project reflects the students’ ability to apply engineering principles to create eco-friendly solutions suited to local needs.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Dean of  Engineering, Professor A. Akinsanmi, commended the students for their ingenuity and commitment to addressing real-world challenges through sustainable technology. He emphasized that such projects not only highlight the potential of renewable energy but also demonstrate the importance of utilizing local resources to drive technological advancement in Nigeria.

The solar-powered stove is expected to serve as a model for future engineering innovations, showcasing the role of university students in developing practical solutions to energy challenges in the country.
