Gateway Games: Aiyedatiwa receives Torch of Unity in Akure

Ahead of the forthcoming National Sports Festival in Ogun state, tagged ‘Gateway Games’, Ondo state governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on Thursday, received the Torch of Unity in Akure.

Speaking at the Ondo state sports complex in Akure, the governor, represented by his deputy, Olayide Adelami, assured the state contingent of his administration’s commitment to their welfare to enable them participate actively in the sporting event.

He disclosed that funds have been approved and released for the seamless participation of Ondo state contingent at the 22nd National Sports Festival, which will hold between May 16 to May 31, 2025, in Ogun state.

The governor thanked Team Ondo for securing 43 medals in the just concluded Niger Delta games in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state, charging the contingent to the Gateway Games to surpass the record and be worthy ambassadors of the state.

Permanent Secretary of the state ministry of youth and sports development, Tolulope Adeyemi, expressed confidence in the team’s preparation and commended the state government for its support in ensuring adequate training and motivation for the athletes.

Leading the torch delegation to Ondo state, a Deputy Director in the National Sports Commission, Nkana Mbora, thanked the state government for the warm reception, assuring of the commission’s preparedness for the festival.
