The Director, Directorate of Gender and Sustainable Development ( DDGSD), Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED), Ondo, Dr. Mrs. Omolara Awe, has stated that her directorate’s decision to pay a courtesy visit to the office of the Ondo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in Akure was meant to seek areas of cooperation and collaboration.

Awe made the statement when she led a team from the DDGSD to the headquarters of the Ministry in Akure, the Ondo state capital.

While commending the Ondo state government for contributions made by the ministry to women’s development in the state, Dr. Awe said her directorate would be interested in collaborating with the ministry, in the crusade aimed at reducing Gender-based violence in the state.

She also hinted that the visit was in response to a directive received from the Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor of AFUED, Dr. Samuel Akintunde, who instructed her when she assumed office as the Director, of DGSD in the institution, to seek support and synergy with relevant government agencies, on ways by which the objectives of the Directorate could be achieved.

The AFUED DGSD used the occasion to inform the Ministry of the plan being mulled by the University to introduce new courses, which include gender studies, social work, education, human rights, and security studies adding that the development would create admission opportunities for indigenes of the state and the country in general.

Speaking while receiving the team from AFUED, the Permanent Secretary, Ondo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Mr. Tope Lebile, congratulated the institution for its upgrade to a university of Education by the Federal government.

He described the news as a welcome development, and stressed the need for stronger cooperation between the Ministry and the institution, stating that the move would help in addressing any issue that relates to violence against girls and women in our society.

He lauded the AFUED DGSD for the visit and pledged the ministry’s readiness to partner with the University in the development of girl child education.

While soliciting support for admission placement for interested applicants from the ministry, who may be interested in gaining admission to study any of the new courses to be introduced, Lebile said the move would go a long way in advancing knowledge in the state.

The climax of the meeting was the presentation of gift items by the AFUED team and Bon Patrimone Foundation & Children Shelter Center, Ondo to Mr.Tope Lebile.

Similarly, a special gift was also presented for onward transmission to the state governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, it was received on his behalf by Mr Tope Lebile, the permanent Secretary of the ministry.

The brief meeting which was held at the office of Mr. Tope Lebile, who was also present on the occasion had in attendance Directors from the Ministry, AFUED, DGSD Mrs Omolara Awe. AFUED,
Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Mrs. Oluseto Olatuyi, and the Deputy Director, Directorate of Gender and Sustainable Development, AFUED Dr Amuho Uzezi Edgar.

Also present was the founder, of Bon Patrimone Foundation and Children Shelter Center, Ondo, Mrs. Rita Akinwande, Mr. Kingsly Ashia, and Miss Dorcas Ojo, a Corp Member, Serving at Bon Patrimone Foundation & Children Shelter CInformation among others.
