Ondo state governor, Mr Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has been urged to give more attention to sports development in the state not only by allocating funds but select experts with the interest of sports at heart in charge of affairs.
Former chairman Ondo state Football Agency, ODSFA, Mr Akin Akinbobola stated this while chatting with sports Journalists in Akure.
A former board member of the Nigeria Premier League lamented the staggering standard of Sunshine Stars in the league and its poor run, attributing it to the inability of appointing technocrats in handling the state football agency.
While describing football as a veritable tool that is capable of empowering residents, Akinbobola said if well managed, Ondo state could generate funds from football and sports generally.
On the poor outing of Nigerian domestic leagues teams at the continental level, the executive secretary of Western Nigeria Football forum called for improved security for referees and officials. He added that maintenance of pitches and involvement of relevant stakeholders in managing various clubs are some of the ways that the Nigerian league could be well represented continentally.
