Goal from Lola Phillips not enough for Sunshine Queens to shine

Bayelsa Queens Fc forced sunshine Queens Fc to a one all draw in an Aiteo cup tie decided at the Dipo Dina international stadium Ijebu ode.

Lola Philips scored for the ondo state sponsored side in the 13th minute following a swerving cross from Tina Oyathelemhi.

Aminat Yakubu, Tina Oyathelemhi and Bolaji Olamide combined perfectly upfront nine minutes after the goal but their efforts didn’t yield results as the first half ended one nil in favor of sunshine Queens.

On resumption into the second forty-five minutes the girls from Bayelsa pushed harder but couldn’t break sunshine Queens defence as Opeyemi Aiyeniberu, Adeola Aminu, wumi Oshobukola and Rofiat Imuran formed an unbreakable wall to prevent the opponent.

The goal finally arrived for Bayelsa Queens 12 minutes into the second half via a scramble in the box which beat Goalkeeper Rita Akerekor of sunshine queens

Football fans at the stadium were amazed in the 74th minute  when sunshine Queens attacker and former Bayelsa Winger, Aminat Yakubu was brought down in the vital area following what appeared to be an infringement, but center referee ignored penalty plea by the player and technical officials.

Pressure was mounted in the later part of the game by Bayelsa Queens but Sunshine Queens held on to pick a point as the match ended 1-1

Sunshine Queens Head coach Wemimo Mathew who spoke with journalists after the match commended her girls for their doggedness in the entire duration

” Its fair we pick a point, but we ought to have won the game. But today we didn’t just play against Bayelsa Queens, we played against other individuals, but I’m glad we picked a point.”
