Goat farmers appeal for assistance

By Fatima Muraina

Ondo state Sheep and Goat Association has called on governments to be proactive on goat production to increase the protein intake of the people.
The State Chairman of the association , Mr Ehinola Folajimi made the call in an interview with The Hope.
Folajimi said goat production does not contain fats and cholesterol like many other animals and has the tendency to boost the internally generated revenue of the farmers, state and the country at large.
He said a goat can raise up to over 12 siblings within a period of three years due to its multiplying effect of production.
Folajimi expressed dissatisfaction that government has not considered goat farmers for assistance but that what they have been doing are through their individual efforts.
“We have not benefitted anything from both federal and state governments in spite of many programmes and benefits being given to many other farmers across the state and nation.
“We have filled several forms and requested for assistance but nobody has come to our aid.
“We need loan assistance to boost our production especially in areas of building houses for our animals, feeds, and to sink boreholes to make water available.
Goats need water for survival,” he further stressed.
He pleaded with governments to encourage the production of goats and as well, empower the farmers.
