Gold Cup 2019 Final:  Tornadoes stop Sunshine

Efforts by Sunshine Stars to win the Gold Cup tagged Taiwo Ogunjobi for the second time consequently were thwarted by the Nigeria National League (NNL) side and representative at this season CAF Confederations Cup, Niger Tornadoes.

Tornadoes emerged as Champions of the 2019 preseason tourney in Ilorin Kwara State, after coming from behind to defeat Sunshine Stars 2-1 in the pulsating encounter.

Waheed Adebayo beat Tornadoes offside trap to put Sunshine Stars ahead in 16th minute.

Sunshine Stars’ goal keeper did well to calmly denied Tornadoes attempt from Nasiru Afeez free kick in 24th minute.

Before Segun Alebiosu find a leveler  for Niger Tornadoes in  11th minute into the second half.

Segun Alebiosu  completed his brace after nod home Peter Momoh’s freekick to put Tornadoes ahead in the 77th minute.

Sunshine Stars’ substitutes in the 54th and  80th minute failed to yield the needed result as Tornadoes ensured the score line remained 2-1 to lift the Trophy.

Niger Tornadoes crashed out of this Season’s CAF confederations league in the hands of Santoba FC of Guinea 5-4 on aggregate and hope to gain promotion to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) as they plan to start another season in Nigeria’s second tier football league.
